Hostile Cities

Cities have long been regarded as hubs of opportunity and excitement, attracting people from all walks of life.

However, beneath the surface, are the designs we use to eliminate crime and anti-social behaviour also designing out sociability, accessibility and fun?

From stepped access and ghost amenities to spiked pavements and anti-homeless benches, we’ll examine how design influences who can access and thrive in urban spaces.

Can we find a more enlightened approach that encourages diversity and inclusivity?

Can we reach a consensus what makes a welcoming city?

Speakers include:

Cleo Newcombe-Jones (Regeneration Manager, Bath & Northeast Somerset Council)

Tom Swithinbank (Project Manager, Bristol BID)

Martin Jones (Landscape Director, BDP)

Kinny Chinangwa (Disability Inc Business Partner, WECIL)
