Afrika Eye Film Festival – An Architect Between
In associations with Design West, a special double bill of films followed by a Q&A with the Afrika Eye organisers. These films highlight the renowned and revolutionary Burkina Faso architect, activist and educator Diébédo Francis Kéré. He was the first African to receive the prestigious Pritzker Architecture prize in 2022 and is renowned for his approach to solving seemingly intractable design problems. He is recognised for his pioneering approach to design and sustainable modes of construction. His vocation to become an architect comes from a personal commitment to serve the community he grew up in, and a belief in the transformative potential of beauty.
Kéré works in partnership with the communities for whom he builds. Schwartz’s film is an homage to this remarkable man who says, “We believe the solutions the present moment calls for is the need to be informed by tradition to develop practices suitable for the reality of our time, building something that never was, but for which the foundations have long been laid.”
This is a partnership between Afrika Eye Film Festival and Design West.
